Welcome to The TEFL Blog

Welcome to the TEFL Blog, part of the WorldTEFL project. We're here to be the who, what, where, when and why of the TEFL and English teaching world. On online magazine with reviews, stories, location reports and resources for English teachersand TEFL trainees alike. As you will see we're still working on the site, the layout, graphics and most importantly the content. We're almost live, not long to go now...

There really is a never ending amount of work going on here, we're going to get heavily caffinated to try and see what we can accomplish by Easter but in the meantime, check out our blog

What's New?

Well we've got are first collection of articles up on our blog, check out our News & Articles section here.

What's In The Pipeline?

We've got lots more articles, reviews and field reports being written up now. Prague and Barcelona will get a good bit of attention from us, mainly because we're trying to justify some field trips on the expenses account to these lovely cities. We're also signing up to a few online, distance TEFL courses to see how they measure up.

So what's it all about then?

Well the last thing the World needs is another dry TEFL site reselling other peoples TEFL courses, rammed full of adverts, uninspired content and the usual "wow, isn't our course great" routine with smiley photos of people enjoying their course. Yes, it's important to get the details on a specific course when you're at the point of booking it but we're not here to talk about course dates, accomodation prices or give you some cheap copy/paste blurb on 'the local culture', like it could be summed up in a one page extract from the local guide book.

We're here to share real stories that are worth a read.

What can you find here?

Lots of stories about real people who made the big step of taking a TEFL course and then went on to teach English, to teach TEFL, to start up their own TEFL schools, travelled the world and generally made the world a better place to speak English. Also you will be able to read stories about the retired vetrans, those who had a great time teaching English as a foreign language but then returned to 'civvie street'. How did their TEFL experience help them out in their new careers? Would they go back? Did they win any medals?

What won't you find here?

We're going to try as hard as we can to avoid becoming a souless bullet point summary of 200 different course to chose from. We're also resisting the temptation to fill over half of our webpage with random adverts, if you've clicked around other TEFL sites you'll understand. We also have a cliché box in the office. It's like a swear box but everytime one of us lets slip a TEFL cliché in an article we have to pay in. So hopefully you won't find too many instances of "fun and rewarding" when talking about teaching English, and we will also try and minimise the use of "friendly and dynamic" when describing courses and schools.

I like your style. So can I sign up to do your TEFL course?

No, sorry. We don't run TEFL courses, nor do we pretend to either. We're just here to talk TEFL. We're probably not even going to be taking bookings for other peoples courses, just click a link and speak to them directly. If we do a news letter (it's on the to-do list, honest) you could sign up for that.

So when will your website be finished?

Never! That's right. Even when we have our first schools reviewed and another few dozen listed we won't say the site is finished. Even when we manage to get every TEFL school in the world listed our work won't be finished as we'll have to go back for an update, refresh our reviews and see what's changed there. You ever wondered how long ago most of the TEFL school listings are on regular sites? A TEFL reviewers work is never done!
